Since this Winter World Cup is proceeding with massive disruptive noise and the reporting in advance pointed out problems in detail, we did not want to enjoy the whole thing without comment. Therefore, we adhered to a premise of the Beutelsbach Consensus: What is critically discussed must also be critically presented in school. We referred to many critical points, of which the timing of the World Cup and the human rights situation before the World Cup should suffice as examples. We changed perspectives and saw, for example, that it is also the first summer World Cup for countries in the southern hemisphere. A short discussion with differentiated student statements was initiated. Just in time for the kickoff, we were able to devote ourselves to soccer and, despite the poor result, enjoyed our time together and the tense euphoria that was ultimately palpable.
