Bee News

In preparation for the winter season, not only our bee colony was busy, but also the participants of our beekeeping GTA.

In addition to feeding the bees and regular colony inspections, during which they also looked for and found the queen bee, the students devoted themselves to the topic of "bees" in theory in order to lay the necessary foundations as young beekeepers. They learned a lot of background knowledge about bee colonies and their products pollen, wax and honey and how these can be used by humans. Especially apitherapy, i.e. the medicinal use of bee products, was of great interest and so lip balms, ointments and sweets were made by our young beekeepers themselves.Labels were designed for our self-harvested honey so that it can then be sold at school events of the international. Before the winter house was set up and secured with mouse grids and thermo differences shortly before Christmas, there was still a lot to do: among other things, a hive was built. The children learned about the function of the hives and embellished them. They diligently nailed brood and honey frames, soldered in center walls and made thermo differences.
